India and South Africa are set to go head-to-head in the T20 World Cup final. The big-ticket clash will be hosted at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
Both teams have stayed unbeaten so far in the tournament. They have overcome heavyweights like England, Australia and the West Indies to reach the final. In terms of overall performance, India have been a little more dominant than the Proteas, who had struggled on a few occasions in the group stage. These two sides have earlier faced off against each other six times in the T20 World Cup. Among them, India emerged victorious in four matches.
South Africa, however, had the last laugh when they met the Men in Blue in the last edition of the competition in Australia. With a few hours left for the battle in the final, the ICC shared some glimpses of the last clash between India and South Africa from the 2022 T20 World Cup on Instagram.

India and South Africa squared off at the Optus Stadium in Perth for a group fixture. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. The Indian captain pulled off a blazing start but failed to survive long. Rohit struck a boundary and a four to score 15 runs before Lungi Ngidi trapped him for a catch with a slower delivery. KL Rahul also returned to the pavilion in the same over, managing only 9 runs.
Virat Kohli slammed two consecutive boundaries off Ngidi but ended up being caught at the fine leg in the very next delivery. Suryakumar Yadav had held the wicket at one end and notched an inning-reviving half-century. His 68-run knock was laced with six fours and three sixes. Surya, however, didn’t get proper support from the other batters.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi fetched a four-wicket haul while Wayne Parnell picked three including the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. With the lower order collapsing like a deck of cards, India wrapped up their innings with 133 runs.
Arshdeep Singh drew the first blood for India in the second over, sending off Quinton de Kock. The young Indian pacer dismissed Rilee Rossouw for a duck in the same over. The early wickets gave India hope of making a comeback to the contest. Aiden Markram and David Miller, however, had different plans. South Africa were three wickets down when the duo took over the charge.
Both Markram and Miller registered a half-century and racked up a 76-run partnership to change the course of the game. Thanks to their contributions, South Africa comfortably chased down the paltry target in 19.4 overs.
The Rohit Sharma-led India will look to turn the tables this time and win the final to take home their second T20 World Cup title.
