Virat Kohli’s poor start to the 2024 T20 World Cup campaign has now extended to three matches after he was out for a golden duck for just the second time in his career. USA left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar slanted one across to Kohli to have the India batting superstar edge one behind to the wicketkeeper.
This is the second time in his T20I career that the 35-year-old Kohli has been out off the first ball and the first time he has failed to open his account in a T20 world cup match. His aggregate now reads a sorry five runs from three innings of the ongoing world cup.

Netravalkar, the hero of USA’s stunning win over Pakistan, also accounted for India captain Rohit Sharma (3) later on. Trying to play the ball towards mid-on, Rohit was a little early into his shot and ended up getting a leading edge with Harmeet Singh taking a superb running catch.
Rohit started his world cup campaign with a match-winning half-century against Ireland during which he was retired hurt after copping a blow to his arm. Against Pakistan he was dismissed for 13 before falling for another low score against USA.
India will be a bit worried by the form of their opening duo of Rohit and Kohli. With the former world champions expected to make it to the Super 8 stage, they will encounter tougher opponents in the next round.
Kohli entered the world cup after finishing IPL 2024 with 741 runs – the most by any batter. There were speculations where Kohli will bat for India considering he opened for Royal Challengers Bengaluru throughout the season.
India will hope Kohli gets back to his best soon enough as they aim to break their hunt for a first ever T20 world title since they last won in 2008.
India will next face Canada in their fourth to conclude their Group A campaign.
