RCB spinner Georgia Wareham pulled off an iconic piece of fielding in the deep during her side’s WPL 2024 fixture against the Delhi Capitals on Thursday in Bengaluru.

Wareham leapt in the air to parry the ball away from the ropes in a sensational bit of fielding that was reminiscent of RCB legend AB de Villiers’ ‘superman catch’ at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the year 2018.

South African de Villiers managed to pull off an unbelievable catch as he took off from the ground and landed with the ball in his hand after having plucked out a blinder.

RCB won the toss and opted to field first against the side from the capital city and started rather positively as they got rid of opposition skipper Meg Lanning in the powerplay.

But, Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey steadied the Delhi innings with their partnership that took DC beyond the triple-digit mark. Verma made a 50-run contribution while Capsey chipped in with a 46-run knock.

Wickets fell in quick succession before South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp and Australian Jess Jonassen played swashbuckling innings’ to boost DC’s total to 194.

Kapp made a quickfire 32 off 16 deliveries, while Jonassen made an unbeaten 36 off 16 deliveries.

RCB opened their chase with Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Divine as they went in search of the target as the captain led from the front with a 75-run knock.

Divine went back to the hut after making a 24-run contribution, while Sabbhineni Meghana added 36 runs to the side’s cause.

Jonassen starred with the ball in her hand too as she scalped 3 wickets to restrict RCB to 169 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs, while Kapp and Arundhati Reddy scalped two wickets each to help DC end RCB’s unbeaten run in the second edition of the women’s T20 franchise league.
