Pakistan captain Babar Azam came forward to console Azam Khan after the wicketkeeper-batter’s flop show in the fourth T20I against England. Azam, who is set to make his T20 World Cup debut this year, failed to dazzle in the series on English soil. In the last game at the Oval, Azam failed to open his account with the bat and dropped a couple of easy catches.
After the match was over, the youngster was visibly dejected. As soon as Babar Azam saw Azam Khan standing alone at the crease, he walked up to him. The Pakistan skipper put his arm around Azam and said a few words to motivate him. The beautiful moment was captured on the broadcaster’s camera.
Sharing the footage, a fan wrote on X, “I’m so glad to see this video that “Babar” backs “Azam Khan” after yesterday’s performance. This is the quality of a pure leader.”

After the clip surfaced on the internet, many fans hailed Babar Azam for his leadership quality, appreciating the gesture. One of them highlighted how Babar had done something similar in the press conference. “Also in the press conference, he said we have to back them because they are our main players of the WC squad,” he wrote.

Another agreed and said, “When you pick a team for international matches, every member is important and they have a role to play.”
When you pick a team for international matches, every member is important and they have a role to play. Wicket keeper’s role can make lot of difference in winning or losing a match. A Captain ‘s support is good but end results are more important.— Hemant Sharma (@hemant2506) June 1, 2024
“Well played, Babar. If you want to be a leader, you’ve got to back the ones struggling,” read a comment.

Well played, Babar. If you want to be a leader, you’ve got to back the ones struggling. Azam Khan is a kid at heart. Needs careful handling. He didn’t perform in a series lost by Pakistan.— Rizwan Rehmat (@dohagames) May 31, 2024
This fan doesn’t consider Babar to be the best of captains but he agreed that the Pakistani skipper had a golden heart. “He may not be the best leader, but the man certainly has a heart of gold!!!” he wrote.

Pakistan couldn’t produce anything positive in the final assignment ahead of the T20 World Cup. Not only Azam Khan but the other middle-order batters also looked pale in the England series. The first T20I of the four-match series was cancelled due to rain. England dominated the second game and notched a 27-run win. The third T20I was also washed out for bad weather.

In the last match, Pakistan faced a batting collapse and posted 157 runs on the board. England chased down the target in 15.3 overs, losing only three wickets along the way. Babar Azam-led Pakistan will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign with a match against the USA on June 6.
