Watch: Australia Wicketkeeper Booed For Claiming Bounced Catch at Lord's
Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis was booed by the capacity crowd at Lord's on Friday after replays showed he claimed a bounced catch.

An Australian wicketkeeper being booed at Lord’s. Where have we heard that before? Memories of the 2023 Ashes were refreshed during the fourth ODI between England and Australia when the capacity crowd at the historic venue joined forces to express their displeasure at the conduct of an Aussie wicketkeeper.

While in the Ashes, it was Alex Carey who was booed for running out the wandering English batter Jonny Bairstow for being callous, on Friday it was the turn of Josh Inglis to face the heat.

Carey’s act though was well within the ICC rules, and he was present on the field this time too witnessing the crowd booing his teammate this time around.

Carey played this game as a specialist batter while Inglis was handed over the wicketkeeping duties.

So why the reaction?

Well, England captain Harry Brook edged one from Mitchell Starc in the 17th over while attempting a flick. The ball began dying on Inglis who moved to his left in an attempt to take the catch.

Inglis claimed the catch and the on-field umpire adjudged it as out with Brook starting his walk back to the dressing room. However, just to be sure the umpire sent the decision upstairs, and the replay did confirm the edge but also showed the ball bounced before reaching the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

Brook was relieved but the crowd wasn’t happy having watched the replay on the big screen at the venue and made their anger known through loud boos directed at Inglis.

Brook was batting on 17 and went on to score 87 off 58 with the help of 11 fours and a six. Liam Livingstone then struck a blistering half-century, an innings during which he smashed four sixes and a four in a single over of Mitchell Starc to propel England to 312/5 in the rain-curtailed affair.

Australia won the first two ODIs of the five-match series before England won the third thanks to a sparkling hundred from Brook.
