Shaheen Afridi Accused of Bad Behaviour and Lobbying by Head Coach Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood - Report
Pakistan's premier pacer, Shaheen Afridi has been accused of bad behaviour with the management and lobbying by the Head Coach Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood.

Pakistan international pacer, Shaheen Afridi has been accused of bad behaviour by the current coaching staff which includes Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood.

Kirsten had submitted a report to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and as per the Pakistan news outlet, Samaa News, the quick bowler’s string of poor behaviour dates back to the T20I series against Ireland and through to the T20 World Cup 2024.

According to the report, ” Shaheen Afridi from the Ireland T20I series, England T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2024, has been accused of bad behaviour by Gary Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood. No action was taken against the pacer and he continued to misbehave and has also been accused of lobbying”.

The news will certainly rock the Pakistan cricket fraternity as the pacer remains an integral part of the national cricket team’s future but that remains at risk if the reports are true.

The 2009 T20 World Champions were not even close to their best despite being tipped to be the favourites to progress through the group stages along with their rivals India. However, the Babar Azam-led side crashed out of the tournament after losing out to the likes of the USA in their opening game followed by another against India as well.

Shaheen was also made the captain of the T20I side following Babar stepping down from the role after the ODI World Cup 2023 disaster. But after the T20I series loss against New Zealand at home, Babar was reinstated as the captain of the white-ball side, but that did not result in a turn of fortunes.

The PCB is yet to make any official announcement regarding the topic. Yesterday the board had announced that they have relieved former international cricketers Abdur Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from their respective roles in the selection committee.

The team will take part in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in August and it remains to be seen if Afridi will play a role or whether he will face action from the board if the reports are true.
