The Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli managed to shine once again in the crucial battle for the final playoff spot against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday where he managed to break more records.
He was able to start off his innings quickly scoring 19 in 9 deliveries within the first three overs after which the game was stopped briefly due to rain. The game turned against the home side after the break as the ball was gripping and the spinners found a lot of turn on offer.
Needing to find his groove again, Kohli struggled initially against the spinners. But he had enough and decided to go after the likes of Mitchell Santner and Ravindra Jadeja as he came close to yet another fifty.

But his knock was cut short thanks to a fine take by Daryl Mitchell who was stood at the long-on boundary ropes to cut his innings short and give the wicket to Santner.

Following his knock, Kohli now joins Nicholas Pooran to share the feat of smashing the most sixes in the ongoing edition of the IPL. However, the likes of Sunil Narine and Abhishek Sharma of KKR and SRH respectively could go up a few spots with the playoff games coming up
Kohli also breached the 700-run mark for the second time in his IPL career and joins the former RCB man Chris Gayle to share the feat of breaching the 700-run mark twice in IPL history. This also becomes Virat Kohli’s second-highest tally for the season and is currently at 708 runs for the season.

His season with the bat has been outstanding. Despite RCB’s disastrous start to the season where they were languishing at the bottom of the table, Kohli was the only batter to score runs at the top consistently. As the fortunes for RCB have turned in their favour and going at a five-match win-streak, Kohli continues to be as consistent showing his class with the willow.
