Nepal Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane Cries Foul Over Rape Conviction; Claims 'Victim of Conspiracy'
After Nepal announced their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Sandeep Lamichhane has promised to reveal the names of those behind the alleged conspiracy after being convicted of rape by the state courts.

After being unable to find a spot in Nepal’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Sandeep Lamichhane has taken to social media to reveal that he is a ‘victim of conspiracy’.

The 23-year-old has been out of action ever since the Kathmandu court sentenced the player to eight years of prison for the rape of an 18-year-old woman.  Following the sentence, the Cricket Association of Nepal also suspended the former skipper from any domestic or international cricket activities as well.

However, he has broken his silence ever since he was not included in Nepal’s 15-man squad that was announced on May 1.

“I refrained myself from long to post. I have no doubt that I am a victim of conspiracy. May God bless them all who played their roles in this conspiracy. I leave everything up to God. Time will tell the truth unless revealed," said Sandeep.

In another post, the Nepal international also alleged that there was a conspiracy against him and promised to reveal the names of those behind this alleged conspiracy.

“I resepct the laws and order of the respective courts but I promise everyone to reveal the names of each and every single individual who played their roles in this conspiracy very soon including everyone who are involved in the case," Sandeep said.

Before the conviction, the leg-spinner was a big prospect who seemed to have what it takes to be one of the top spinners in the white-ball format. He is also the first player from Nepal to be picked up in the IPL, Delhi Daredevils (now renamed Delhi Capitals) had bid for the youngster at the 2018 auctions.

He also took part in the Asia Cup last year where he played against the likes of India and Pakistan. His last international game was against Oman in November 2023.
