Fortunes have finally turned in favour of the five-time champions Mumbai Indians as they have taken their first points of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League following a victory by 29 runs against the Delhi Capitals at home.
After losing their first three games of the season, Hardik Pandya’s side raised their first win of the season and this was only possible due to the fine starts provided by the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
Following the victory, head coach, Mark Boucher addressed the team and congratulated them for the win. He also gave Rohit a special award to appreciate his knock as well which set the tone for MI to score a massive total of 234 runs.

He further mentioned that it is important to look at what the team needs rather than thinking from a personal mindset. He added,” It goes to show that the individual performances do not matter if the whole batting group can stand up and put their hand up and look at the team’s goal. We can achieve that kind of total”.

He concluded by saying,” It is something that we have been talking about for a long time. And that is something the batting coach, Mark, and captain all want. Wonderful to see that and like you said, long may that continue”.
The win is an important one for the team as they now look like the lethal side that they can be. Everything was executed perfectly. Rohit and Ishan gave the starts. Romario Shepherd finished the game strong. Skipper Pandya anchored through the middle in the first innings.

With the ball, Gerald Coetzee was the shining light as he picked up four wickets along with Jasprit Bumrah’s two wickets to help the home side get the win.
The team will now look ahead to their next home against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Another win could put the side well above the minnows of the competition as they aim to clinch their record-sixth title.
