'Don't Think It's a Problem With Youngsters': Gill Contradictory View on Rohit's 'Humble' Take on Jaiswal
Shubman Gill has taken a different approach on youngsters being humble and thinks it 'not a problem'.

As the spotlight continues to shine brighter on India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, his team-mate Shubman Gill believes that there is nothing wrong with being proud of the talent the opener possesses, an approach contradictory to his skipper, Rohit Sharma.

Jaiswal has been the best batter in the ongoing home series between India and England with the opening batter already racking up 545 runs to take him to the top of the run-scoring charts. He had scored double-centuries in the last two Tests which was a crucial contribution in the hosts taking the series lead 2-1.

Following their win at Rajkot, Rohit had opted for a more mellow route when asked about Jaiswal. “I’ve spoken a lot about him. I’m sure people outside the changing room have also been talking about him. I want to be calm about him, not talk a lot about him. He’s started his career on a high, said the captain.

Even in the third Test, the leader of the side had highlighted that Jaiswal had to remain humble in what is likely going to be a long and illustrious career for India.

“He has a lot to offer the team, I hope he stays humble,” said Rohit after the Vizag Test win.

But Gill who had spoken during the press conference ahead of the fourth Test, does not necessarily agree with the approach of his skipper and believes that as long as Jaiswal can continue putting on performances like he has already, then there is no need for being humble.

“I don’t think there is any problem with youngsters not being humble. You know, if you don’t have it (talent) then you will not be scoring back-to-back double hundreds,” said the number three batter.

The 24-year-old believes that the opener is an exceptional talent and highlighted that there aren’t many batters who have gone on to do what Jaiswal has done.

“Not many in world cricket have scored back-to-back double hundreds. He definitely is a sensational player. We have seen it over the eight or nine Tests,” he added.

Both Jaiswal and Gill are undoubtedly top talents who look to be the future of Indian cricket. The hosts will hope to see them continue to perform as they have with the fourth Test coming up as they will look to claim the series and look forward to the next challenge ahead of them.
