Former India wicketkeeper-batter Ajay Ratra has been named in the BCCI men’s selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. Ratra, who played six Tests and 12 ODIs for India, replaces Salil Ankola in the committee.
“As a selector, Mr. Ratra will work alongside the existing members of the selection committee to identify and support the next generation of cricketers who will represent India on the global stage,” read a statement from BCCI.

Ratra’s international career just about eight months in 2002 and scored 253 runs across formats while effecting 27 dismissals.
“It is a huge honour and a challenge. I look forward to contributing to Indian cricket,” Ratra told PTI after the BCCI announcement.
He represented Haryana in domestic cricket and brings with himself an experience of 99 First Class matches, 89 List A games and 17 T20s. He scored over 5000 runs and has over 350 dismissals to his name.
Ratra has an extensive coaching experience having worked as a Head Coach of Assam, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. He was also a part of the coaching staff of the Indian team during their ODI series in South Africa in 2023.
“His insights will be instrumental to the committee in ensuring that the best talent is identified, nurtured, and given the opportunity to excel at the highest level,” the statement added.
Ratra will work alongside SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Sridharan Sarath who are also part of the selection committee. His first task will be assisting Agarkar and co in finalising India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh at home that starts from September 19.
A host of top India cricketers will be in action during the Duleep Trophy that starts from September 5. The competition, which also kickstarts India’s domestic season, is a chance for the regulars to get into the red-ball mode while those on the fringes will be aiming to leave an impression.
