Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi ripped apart the Ugandan batting line-up as he picked up five wickets in a T20 World Cup clash today at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Farooqi picked up five wickets giving away just nine runs in his four overs. With this, the left-arm pacer succeeded in scripting the best bowling figures for an Afghanistan cricketer in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Farooqi also became the second Afghan bowler after Mujeeb ur Rahman to register a fifer at the T20 World Cup. Mujeeb had claimed a five-wicket haul against Scotland at the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup.

Fazalhaq Farooqi’s spectacular bowling impressed fans and they heaped praise on the Afghanistan fast bowler for his commendable performance against Uganda.

“He’s top-notch from the first over and his swing is outstanding,” wrote one person on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Another social media user felt that the Indian Premier League (IPL) helped Fazalhaq Farooqi in becoming a lethal fast bowler. “Fazalhaq Farooqi has benefited a lot from playing IPL, bowling in front of big players, one gets to learn a lot from him,” read the response.

“Fazalhaq Farooqi is a total legend, smashing records and making Afghanistan proud with those bowling figures,” commented another person.

Fazalhaq Farooqi’s sublime bowling helped Afghanistan clinch an emphatic 125-run victory against Uganda. Farooqi was also, rightfully, adjudged Player of the Match for his impressive bowling today. Batting first, Afghanistan registered a solid total of 183 runs at the loss of five wickets.

Afghanistan wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz was his side’s highest scorer of the game with a terrific 76-run knock. Gurbaz’s blistering 45-ball innings comprised four boundaries and as many sixes. With this, Gurbaz also managed to post the highest individual score for an Afghan cricketer in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Another Afghanistan opening batter Ibrahim Zadran also contributed significantly having scored 70 off 46 balls. Uganda did not have a fruitful start to their run chase having lost two wickets in the very first over. The Brian Masaba-led side, eventually, were bowled out for a meagre total of 58.
