Trisha Krishnan had two releases in the month of October, one the much-hyped and large-scale production Leo and the other, the relatively small-scaled The Road. The revenge drama, which was helmed by debutante director Arun Vaseegaran, did average business at the box office and opened to mixed reviews. Considering the low production budget, The Road, which was released on October 6, managed to recoup its expenses.
A month after its theatrical release, The Road is now ready to come to your television and phone screens. Popular OTT platform Aha has bought the streaming rights to the film and will start streaming on November 10.
Content in Telugu and Tamil is available on the OTT platform Aha. During Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, on March 25, 2020, the service was formally launched after a soft launch on January 25, 2020.
The film is based on some real incidents that happened on the national highways of Tamil Nadu. A series of murders occur at the same spot on the national highway. The protagonist of the movie is a woman who sets out to investigate a string of unexplained deaths. The woman is motivated to find out why accidents often happen along a particular stretch of a major highway after losing someone close to her. It is discovered that a drug cartel is responsible for the mishaps that result in the deaths of innocent people and the protagonist decides to bring these wrongdoers to justice.
Sam CS composed the soundtrack for the movie, KG Venkatesh took care of the photography and Phoenix Prabhu choreographed the stunts. The film stars Trisha alongside a strong ensemble cast that includes Dancing Rose Shabeer, Santhosh Prathap, Miya George, MS Bhaskar, Vivek Prasanna, Vela Ramamoorthy and Laxmi Priya.
After the movie was released, there was some criticism of the claim that the movie was based on real-life incidents as many thought that the makers had taken creative liberty.
