R Madhavan and Jyothika won the Best Actor and Actress awards respectively, for their remarkable portrayals in Irudhi Suttru and 36 Vayathinile.

The Tamil Nadu Government has unveiled the prestigious State Film Awards for 2015, celebrating the outstanding cinematic accomplishments and talents gracing the silver screen. Set to take place on March 6, 2024, at the TN Rajarathinam Kalai Arangam in Chennai, the award ceremony promises to shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements within the Tamil film industry.

Under the patronage of the Minister for Information and Publicity, MP Saminathan, the ceremony will honour exemplary contributions across various categories, acknowledging the creativity and dedication of filmmakers, actors, actresses and technicians.

Among the notable winners is the gripping 2015 thriller Thani Oruvan, directed by Mohan Raja, which clinched the coveted award for Best Film. Starring Jayam Ravi, Arvind Swami and Nayanthara in lead roles, the film charmed audiences and critics alike with its compelling narrative and stellar performances.

R Madhavan and Jyothika emerged triumphant as the best actor and actress respectively, for their remarkable portrayals in Irudhi Suttru and 36 Vayathinile respectively. Aravind Swamy’s riveting performance in Thani Oruvan earned him the esteemed Best Villain award, while Sudha Kongara’s directorial brilliance in Irudhi Suttru was duly recognised with the Best Director Award.

The winners’ list spans various categories, acknowledging excellence in storytelling, acting, music, cinematography and technical craftsmanship. Notable mentions include Ghibran for Best Music Director, Vivek for Best Lyricist and Ramji for Best Cinematographer, among others.

Furthermore, the awards pay homage to films that champion social causes and women’s empowerment, with 36 Vayathinile receiving special recognition for its portrayal of women’s empowerment.

The reinstatement of the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards in 2017 marked a resurgence in honouring cinematic excellence after a hiatus since 2008. The decision to recognise films released between 2015 and 2016 shows the government’s commitment to acknowledging and promoting outstanding contributions to Tamil cinema.
