The Thalapathy Vijay starrer Leo started streaming on Netflix a week ago after a highly successful run at the box office. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial is the third instalment of a cinematic universe created by the filmmaker himself. With a budget of Rs 300 crore, Leo was the most expensive film Vijay starred in. It turned out to be a big commercial hit but the film has had its share of controversies.
First, there were reports that the Tamil Nadu government had denied permission for the movie’s audio launch event at Nehru Stadium. According to reports, Red Giant Movies was allegedly “arm-twisting” the producers to grant them distribution rights to Red Giant Movies in certain places in exchange for allowing them to hold the music launch event. However, the movie team denied these rumours.
Then there was a bigger controversy when actor Mansoor Ali Khan made some very lewd remarks about Trisha Krishnan which attracted widespread backlash against the actor. The latest reports now say that Lokesh Kanagaraj has locked horns with the producers of Leo due to his remuneration. Since last week, some rumours have suggested that suggest that Seven Screen Studio’s Lalit Kumar owed around Rs 5 crore to Lokesh Kanagaraj and that he withheld the remuneration till way after the film was released. This led to bad blood between the director and the producer.
However, Lokesh has now refuted all these claims. He has said that there has been no dispute with Seven Screen Studio regarding remuneration. He revealed that the decided remuneration of Lokesh for Leo was Rs 22 crore and that Lalit Kumar had paid the amount in its entirety before the film even started filming. He advised his fans to not pay heed to such baseless rumours.
Meanwhile, Lokesh is also all set to turn producer. A few days back, he launched his own production house named G Squad. The title of the production house’s maiden venture was revealed to be Fight Club.
