“In the world of cinema, he had the potential to rise as a massive star. Unfortunately, due to a tragic accident on a film set, he spent more than three decades bedridden. I am deeply saddened by the loss of En Uyir Thozan actor Babu, and I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and the film community.”

Bharathiraja not only visited Babu during his hospitalisation but also provided him with financial assistance. Babu’s filmography included roles in Perumpulli, directed by Vikraman, and Thayamma, directed by Gopi Bhimsingh.
During the early 1990s, Babu was featured in the movie Manasara Vaalthungalaen. In a daring action scene, he had to make a high jump. Despite the director’s suggestion to use a stunt double, Babu attempted the stunt himself. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious back injury after a hard landing, which forced him to pause his film career. Babu had been bedridden for the last 30 years.
Bharathiraja too recently visited Babu in person to inquire about his well-being. In this situation, his health condition got too weak and he was admitted to the hospital. But he died yesterday morning which has left the film industry in mourning.
Bharathiraja boasts an impressive filmography, having directed over 100 films, and he played a pivotal role in introducing numerous actors and actresses to the world of cinema, including Babu. In 1990, Bharathiraja directed En Uyir Thozhan and while the film may not have achieved great success, Babu gained recognition through the song Aei Raasaathi Poo Soodi Vaa Vaa Vaa featured in the movie. This helped him establish himself as a talented actor in the industry.
Indeed, Babu’s roles in films like Ponnuku Sethi Vandachu, Thayamma and Perum Pulli showcased his talent. Much like Ramarajan, who excelled in village-style films that resonated with a wide audience, Babu had the potential to follow a similar path and achieve great success in the film industry.
