Sensex on record-making spree, closes at 15,272.72
The markets ended on strong note taking cues from Asian markets.

Mumbai: The markets ended the week on an extremely strong note taking cues from strong Asian markets. The turnover was brisk but the small cap and mid caps under performed the benchmark indices.

The star sector was metals, the BSE Metal index ended up over 4.5 per cent.

Except for pharma and realty all the other BSE indices ended in green. Hindalco, Tata Steel, Sterlite Ind, Reliance, Zee, BHEL, Larsen, ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC are among the top gainers on indices.

Sensex closed at15,272.72 up 180 points and the Nifty closed up 58 points at 4504. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,795.30 up 13 points or 0.2 per cent. The BSE Smallcap Index ended flat at 8,216.14.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.8 per cent at 8,281.75. ICICI Bank, IOB, Centurion BoP, Andhra Bank, PNB moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1 per cent at 13,059.18. Alfa Laval, BHEL, Jyoti Structure, Kirloskar Oil, Thermax, Siemens closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,058.45 up 1 per cent. Tata Motors, Mah and Mah, MRF, Punj Tractors, Bharat Forge surged.

The BSE Metal Index closed up 4.60% at 12,000.90. SAIL, Hind Zinc, Sesa Goa, Shree Precoated, Hindalco, JSW Steel, NALCO advanced .

The BSE IT Index gained 0.6 per cent at 4,897.95. Satyam, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, I-Flex Solution, Wipro advanced.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,819.67 up 1.8 per cent. Petronet LNG, Reliance, GAIL, BPCL ended in green.

The BSE FMCG Index ended at 1,864.18 up 0.4 per cent. P and G, ITC, Britannia, United Brewerie, GlaxoSmith Con closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14864 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 48879.76 crore.

The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6721.02 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 70464.78 crore.
