Mumbai: After a lot of struggle, the market closed on a negative note. The Sensex was down 144.03 points at 22484.93, and the Nifty ended down 43.20 points at 6733.10.

Hindalco lost 4 per cent while Axis Bank, HDFC, Sesa Strelite and Tata Steel fell around 3 per cent each.
TCS and Wipro were up 4 per cent. Hero Motocorp, Infosys and NTPC were other gainers in the Sensex.
