Mumbai: The BSE Sensex rose for a sixth session on Wednesday, with State Bank of India gaining on hopes of improved asset quality when it reports September quarter results on Friday, while other lenders such as ICICI Bank also rose in anticipation of better loan growth in the holiday season.

The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 85.03 points or 0.45 per cent to close at 18,902.41. Meanwhile, the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 35.70 points or 0.62 per cent to end above 5750 level at 5,760.10.

Gains also tracked a rally in global shares after US President Barack Obama was re-elected for a second term, signalling no dramatic shift in US economic policy.

Country's largest lender State Bank of India provisionally rose 1.7 per cent while ICICI Bank ended 1.28 per cent higher.
