New Delhi: The market witnessed strong buying interest. The Sensex, Nifty, CNX Midcap hit a new high. Metal, FMCG, oil, pharma, banking, capital goods and auto stocks gained. However, consumer durables and technology lost ground.
The Sensex closed at 11,079.02 for the first times ever, up 128.72 points or 1.18 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 11,101.42.
The Nifty closed at 3321.65, up 41.85 points or 1.28 per cent. It touched a life high of 3327.05.
The CNX Midcap ended at 4702.25, up 32.05 points or 0.69 per cent. It also touched an all-time high of 4716.60.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,335.43, up 1.30 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,170.14, up 1.25 per cent.
The market breadth was positive, about 1336 shares advanced, 1136 shares declined, and 72 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover was at Rs 55227.49 crore. The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 11378 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37707.93 crore. The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 6141.56 crore.
HLL, Tata Steel, ITC, Hindalco, GAIL and SAIL were the biggest gainers on the indices.
Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Ranbaxy Labs, Zee Tele, HCL Tech and HPCL were the biggest losers on the indices.
The BSE Metal Index outperformed the other indices on the third consecutive trading day. It closed at 8,498.71, up 3.85 per cent or 315.19 points as gains were seen in JSW Steel, Tata Steel, SAIL, Hindalco, Jindal Steel, Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc, Jindal Stainless and Jindal Saw.
The FMCG Index closed at 2,173.88, up 3.35 per cent due to buying in HLL, ITC, Shaw Wallace, Colgate and Nirma.
Oil stocks like GAIL, ONGC, Kochi Refineries, Petronet LNG, Reliance and IOC also ended higher. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed at 4,843.76, up 1.65 per cent.
Pharma stocks including Aurobindo Pharma, Cadila Healthcare, Cipla, Divis Labs, Sterling Bio, Nicholas Piramal and Sun Pharma also stirred up. The BSE Healthcare Index ended at 3,722.54, up 0.62 per cent.
The BSE Bankex closed at 5,291.80, up 0.58 per cent amid gains in Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, PNB, Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Union Bank.
Some buying was also seen in capital goods and auto stocks.
However, consumer durables stocks like Titan Industries, Su-Raj Diamonds, Blue Star, Whirlpool and Samtel Color finisher lower. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed at 3,198.62, down 1.15 per cent.
Technology stocks including HCL Info, Wipro, HCL Tech, I-Flex Solutions, Patni Computer and Infosys also tumbled. The BSE IT Index ended at 3,879.80, down 0.41 per cent.
