New Delhi: First trading day of the week opened in marginal green on the back of strong global cues. At 0956 hrs, IST the Sensex was up 60 points at 12,945 and Nifty was up 14 points at 3732.
Major gainers in the opening trade were HLL, Reliance, Tata Steel and Hindalco. However, Guj Ambuja, HDFC Bank, Rel Comm were trading weak.
However, Asian stocks started the week on an upbeat note, with Japan's Nikkei average advancing as Sony Corp. and other exporters rose after the yen weakened against the dollar.
Japan's Nikkei gained 0.79 per cent or 135.44 points at 17,299.48, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.77 per cent or 58.42 points at 7,626.62, Singapore's Straits Times advanced 0.87 per cent or 27.27 points at 3,170.98 and South Korea's Seoul Composite rose 1.04 per cent or 14.74 points at 1,438.32.
