Mumbai: The market ended marginally lower amid choppy trade.
The Sensex ended at 11,279.96, up 27.08 points or 0.24%. It touched an all-time high of 11,356.95.
The Nifty closed at 3402.55, down 16.40 points or 0.48%. It touched an intraday high of 3425.45 and an intraday low of 3381.90.
The CNX Midcap ended at 4787.15, up 74.45 points or 1.58%. It touched a life high of 4797.65 and also closed at a new high for the first time ever.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,591.66, up 1.16%. The BSE Midcap Index closed at 5,348.62, up 1.89%.
The market breadth was positive, about 1712 shares advanced, 718 shares declined, and 54 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover was at Rs 57594.75 crore (Rs 575.94 billion). The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 17296 crore (Rs 172.96 billion).
The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 31534.09 crore (Rs 315.34 billion). The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 8764.66 crore (Rs 87.64 billion). The NSE Cash turnover recorded all-time high.
Ranbaxy Labs, TCS, ONGC, ITC, Infosys, Sun Pharma and MTNL were the top losers on the indices.
BHEL, Cipla, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Maruti Udyog, Tata Chemicals, Jet Airways and Shipping Corp were the biggest gainers on the indices.

BHEL spurts ahead of Q4 provisional results, up more than 5% Tata Motors & Maruti rally Midcap momentum stocks rally, outperform broader market.
The BSE Consumer Durables Index outperformed the other indices. It closed at 3,212.33, up 2.44% amid buying in Titan Industries, Samtel Color, Whirlpool, BPL, Su-Raj Diamonds and Blue Star.
Auto stocks like Hind Motors, Ashok Leyland, Bharat Forge, MICO, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, Escorts and Bajaj Auto have also firmed up. The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,322.73, up 1.71%.

Metal stocks including Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa, Welspun Guj and SAIL also ended in the green. The BSE Metal Index closed at 8,869.91, up 1.50%.
The BSE Capital Goods Index ended at 8,170.56, up 1.37% as gains were seen in Lakshmi Machine, Alfa Laval, Praj Industries, Thermax, Ingersoll Rand, BHEL, SKF India, Greaves Cotton, Siemens and Bharat Electronics.
Pharma stocks like Pfizer, Novartis India, Aventis Pharma, Divis Labs, Cipla, Nicholas Piramal, Wockhardt, Ipca Labs and Matrix Lab also surged on buying interest. The BSE Healthcare Index closed at 3,858.10, up 0.39%.
Banking stocks including UTI Bank, Bank of Baroda, IOB, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank and Union Bank also gained. The BSE Bankex ended at 5,265.24, up 0.25%.
However, technology stocks like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Hexaware Tech and HCL Tech also tumbled. The BSE IT Index closed at 4,030.29, down 0.95%.
The BSE FMCG Index ended at 2,211.45, down 0.60% as selling were seen in Nestle, ITC and HLL.
Oil stocks including ONGC, Chennai Petro and Petronet LNG also slipped. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed at 4,918.98, down 0.10%.
