Mumbai: The markets ended near day's high on Thursday on the back of heavy buying seen in scrips across sectors. The rally was led by realty, power, metal and banking stocks.
Global cues were very supportive on Thursday as Asia markets ended strong following another day of gains on Wall Street. Broader markets also ended higher in line with frontline counters. BSE midcap and smallcap index closed higher inline with the fronliners.
The market breadth was also very encouraging but the volumes were a disappointment. The Sensex was up 817.49 points or 4.82 per cent at 17766.63 and the Nifty was up 272.55 points or 5.53 per cent at 5202.00.
About 2146 shares have advanced, 819 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,452.72 up 5 per cent. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,407.76 up 4 per cent. The BSE Bankex was up 4.6 per cent at 10,614.09. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 16,282.17 up 8 per cent. Suzlon, Reliance Infra, Siemens, Triveni Engineering closed higher. The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,689.41 up 3 per cent. Tube Investment, Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 15,621.89 up 6 per cent. JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc closed higher. The BSE FMCG Index closed up 3 per cent at 2,169.50. Colgate, ITC, Nestle, Dabur ended higher. BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,932.36, up 7 per cent.
BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Reliance Natura, GAIL ended higher. The BSE IT Index was at 3,843.50 up 1 per cent. HCL, Infosys, Tech mahindra, TCS, Tech Mahindra closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 13507.06 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37973.36 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5717.81 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 57198.23 crore.
