Mumbai: The markets ended in red with moderate losses as selling pressure was seen in capital goods, FMCG, IT, oil stocks. Broader markets ended marginally in green with both midcap and smallcap up 0.5 per cent. On the global front, most Asian markets ended lower.
Wirpro, L&T, JP Associates were among the top laggards. SAIL, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Tata Communications are among the tother losers.
Orchid Chem was up over 15 per cent,JB Chemicals has approved a buyback upto seven per cent and the stocks was up , Glenmark was among active stocks and is up over six per cent.
Among the top gainers were BHEL, DLF, SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Sterlite Industries.
Sensex closed down 169.46 points or 1.08 per cent at 15587.62, and the Nifty down 51.55 points or 1.08 per cent at 4709.65.
About 1395 shares have advanced, 1209 shares declined, and 468 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,383.02 up 0.6 per cent.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,814.17 down 0.5 per cent.
The BSE Bankex ended at 7,569.16 up 0.6 per cent. Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Oriental Bank, Allahabad Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed down two per cent at 12,528.84. L&T, Astra Microwave, BEML, Crompton Greave, Thermax, Greaves Cotton, Areva T&D closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,415.37 down 0.4 per cent. Escorts, TVS Motor, Amtek Auto, Cummins, Punj Tractors, MRF closed lower.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 13,544.58 down two per cent. Hind Zinc, Sterlite, NALCO, Shree Precoated, Mah Seamless, Jindal Steel, Jindal Saw, Jindal Stainless closed lower.
The BSE FMCG Index closed down 0.5 per cent at 2,372.64. Colgate, ITC, Bata India, Godrej Consumer, HUL, GlaxoSmith Con closed lower.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,462.87 down one per cent. GAIL, Reliance Natura, HPCL, RPL,ONGC, Reliance, ONGC ended in red
BSE power index closed at 2,973.68 down 5.6 per cent. Torrent Power, NTPC, Reliance Energy, Tata Power, Power Grid Corp, Crompton Greave ended in red.
The BSE IT Index was down 1.7 per cent at 3,685.07. I-Flex Solution, Patni Computer, Financial Tech, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Infosys closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 12331.78 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33143.36 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5134.69 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 50609.83 crore.
Capital goods stocks have underperformed the market on Tuesday, BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1.5 per cent.
Technology, telecom, FMCG, oil stocks are under selling pressure on profit booking. These indices were down over one per cent.
