Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India will reportedly construct 11 expressways and highways in the country by 2025. As per the reports, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is focussing on the construction of highways and expressways. The total length of National Highways in the year 2014 was 91,287 kilometres. It has been increased by 1.6 times to 1,46,145 km in 2024. In 2023-24, more than 12,000 kilometres of national highways and expressways were built.
In India, 33 km of the National Highways are being constructed daily. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has reportedly extended the deadline to prepare 11 more highways and expressways by next year.
The total length of 11 highways and expressways to be built next year will reportedly be 5,467 km. These highways and expressways will reportedly pass through 16 states. According to the reports, this will ensure that the traffic connectivity from all the cities will be managed in a better way. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is trying to start all these projects within the stipulated deadline. This will ensure that the public will find it convenient to travel.
The names of these highways and expressways are- Delhi Mumbai (1350 Km.) Delhi Katra (670 Km.) and Delhi Dehradun (210 Km.) These projects also include the Raipur-Hyderabad (330 Km.), Indore-Hyderabad (713 Km.) and Surat-Solapur (464 Km.). Other projects include the Nagpur-Vijayawada. (457 km), Chennai-Salem (277 km), Solapur-Kuntloor (318 km), Nagpur-Vijayawada (457 km) and Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam (221 km).
As per the reports, out of the 11 expressways and highways, construction of some parts of two expressways will start this year. These projects include the Delhi Dehradun and Delhi Mumbai. Reportedly, the work on these projects is happening in several phases and will be opened to the public when they are ready. The project of Delhi Dehradun to Delhi Border and Delhi Mumbai to Surat will be started this year.
Nitin Gadkari heads the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India. Currently, the Ministry has brought a new amendment titled the National Highways Fee (Determination of rates and collection) Amendment Rules, 2024.
