New Delhi: Is it possible for one person to make local calls amounting to over Rs 7.25 lakh in just two months? According to BSNL it is. Deepak Sevak has spent the last nine years trying to clear up the 7.25 lakh bill that BSNL sent him.
When Deepak Sevak got his telephone connection from BSNL in 1995 he did not opt for the STD or ISD facility. Two years later, he received a bill of a whopping Rs 7.25 lakh for 2 months of use.
Deepak then lodged a compliant with BSNL. His complaint traveled from BSNL to the company's Lokadalat and then to a committee formed by the Lokadalat but in vain.
“For nine years I have run from pillar to post till I got tired. Each time I was told that they will form a committee which will decide. Now I want to surrender the connection and I am not able to do that," says Deepak.
If you made one long phone call that lasted two months 24 hrs a day, at the rate of Rs 2 per minute you will receive a bill of Rs 2.25 lakh. Deepak's bill of Rs 7.25 lakh remained unresolved for nine years. However when CNN-IBN took the problem up with BSNL, Deepak 's phone bill was rectified immediately.
Surendra Singh, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Lucknow says, “He did not have an STD connection. It looks like there was some technical problem, which resulted in the inflated bill. The bill has been rectified now.”
Our initiative brought relief to Deepak Sevak. But this case raises questions on the functioning of telecom companies.
