New Delhi: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Monday reduced second class fares by Re 1 in non-suburban ordinary passenger and non-superfast mail and express trains.
Presenting the 2007-08 Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha, he announced reduction of three per cent in fares for AC first class in busy season and six per cent in lean season.
Similarly, for AC two-tier, the busy season reduction is two per cent and lean season four per cent.
As part of the Railway Budget, Lalu announced introduction of 40 new trains, including eight Garib Raths.
He asserted that India ran more than 9,000 passenger trains every day and with the increasing demand, he proposed to introduce 40 new trains, including eight Garib Raths.
The Eight Garib Raths are:
- Secunderabad-Yesvantpur (Tri-Weekly)
- Jaipur-Bandra Terminus via Ahmedabad (Tri-Weekly)
- Kolkata-Patna (Tri-Weekly)
- Bhubaneshwar-Ranchi (Tri-Weekly)
- Thiruvananthapuram-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Bi-weekly)
- Kolkata-Guwahati (Bi-Weekly)
- New Delhi-Dehradun (Tri-Weekly)
- Raipur-Lucknow Junction (Bi-Weekly)

- Howrah-Rampurhat Express (Daily)

- Bapudham Motihari-Varanasi (Tri-Weekly)
- Bikaner-Jaisalmer Express (Two pairs) (Daily)
- Mumbai-Aurangabad Janshatabdi Express (Six days in a week)
