ENG vs SL, World Cup: England Face Wrath of Trolls After Another Dismal Batting Performance
Defending champions England were bundled out for just 156 in the ODI World Cup match on Thursday in Bengaluru.

Defending champions England’s World Cup campaign continues to go downhill as they were bundled out for just 156 against Sri Lanka on Thursday. England have been the biggest disappointment at the moment in the ongoing mega event. They have already lost three of their four matches and they produced another dismal batting show versus Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium which is considered a batting paradise with flat pitches and short boundaries.

However, England just failed to match the intensity in the first innings and lost wickets at regular intervals. Jonny Bairstow (30), Dawid Malan (28) and Ben Stokes (43) got off to good starts but they failed to convert into big scores to rescue the English side which survived for just 33.2 overs.

Sri Lanka put pressure on England with some outstanding fielding which complemented the bowlers who attacked in a pack to dismantle the star-studded English line-up in Bengaluru.

The cricket fraternity and fans on social media were not impressed with England’s batting performance as they also faced the wrath of trolls.

England, who won the toss and chose to bat, started briskly, reaching 45-0 by the seventh over before veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews struck.

Former skipper Mathews, who was called up to replace the injured Matheesha Pathirana after initially being left out of the 15-man squad, is appearing in his fourth World Cup.

The 36-year-old, bowling in an ODI for the first time since March 2020, had Dawid Malan caught behind after the opener had made 28.

Mathews also effected the run out of Joe Root (three) before also claiming the wicket of the recalled Moeen Ali (15).

Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with three scalps under his kitty while Matthews and Kusan Rajitha shared a couple each.

Brief scores: England 156 all out in 33.2 overs (Ben Stokes 43; Lahiru Kumara 3-35)
