Lakshya Sen is India’s one of the fast rising badminton stars. In his early 20s, the youngster has already won a host of major tournaments.

Lakshya announced his arrival in 2014 by triumphing at the Swiss Junior International. Three years later, he emerged as the number one junior player in the BWF world rankings. He won the Asian Junior Championship in 2018 by defeating top-seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

He then competed at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires later in that year and returned with a silver medal.

Lakshya started to make his presence felt at the senior level in 2019 when he secured his first BWF Tour title at the Dutch Open. He also won the men’s singles title at the SaarLorLux Open and the Scottish Open in the same year. He became the fourth Indian player to clinch a badminton world championship medal, winning bronze after losing the semi-final match to compatriot Kidambi Srikanth.

The youngster reached the highest point of his career in 2022. Lakshya won his maiden BWF Super 500 title at the India Open before finishing second at the All England Open Badminton Championships.

Lakshya was part of the Indian team that beat Indonesia in the 2022 Thomas Cup final and three months later, he claimed a Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham.

Paris Olympics Qualification

Lakshya confirmed his entry into the Paris Olympics through the world rankings quota. He will compete in the men’s badminton singles along with HS Prannoy. This is the first time in 20 years that India is sending two men’s singles badminton players to the Summer Olympics.

Recent Performances

Lakshya is yet to win a major title in 2024. He fell marginally short of reaching the final of the All-England Open. He lost to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the semi-final clash. Last year, he defeated the 2023 Asian Games gold medalist Li Shifeng to triumph at the Canada Open.
