Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) is supporting the government’s ‘Skill India’ initiative with its exciting Student Car Project.
This year, students from the Mechatronics program have built a pickup truck by combining a Volkswagen Taigun SUV and Volkswagen Virtus sedan.
The project took nine months to complete, going through various stages like concept finalization, market research, and testing. The students even used 3D printing to design some parts and equipped the truck with special features like underbody protection, studded tyres, and cool roof-mounted lights, giving it a rugged and unique look.
Throughout the journey, the students received guidance from SAVWIPL professionals who helped them connect with industry experts and suppliers. This hands-on project is part of the company’s effort to align with the government’s focus on youth skill development.
SAVWIPL’s Dual Vocational Training in mechatronics, launched in 2011, is designed to prepare young talents for the automotive industry. This full-time 3.5-year course encourages creativity and problem-solving, allowing students to explore future trends and Volkswagen Group standards.
Andreas Dick, a board member for Production and Logistics at Škoda Auto, praised the project, stating, “By bringing global manufacturing practices to India, our goal is to create environments where young innovators can grow into the changemakers of tomorrow, strengthening India’s role as a global manufacturing hub. Our such projects not only focus on strengthening manufacturing capabilities but also ensure that the next generation is ready to drive innovation on a global scale.”
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “Through this project we are aligned with country’s ‘Skill India’ mission wherein we are instilling a culture of hands-on learning where local talent can thrive in a global ecosystem.”
Skoda’s global Azubi Student Car Project also showcases student creativity, highlighting the brand’s commitment to ‘Skill India’. These projects provide valuable practical experience, helping students sharpen their skills.
