The aviation sector in India, which was collapsed in COVID-19 times, has witnessed an impressive sales and travel spike in 2023. Now, the sector is expected to grow stronger in 2024 as top airlines are gearing up to increase fleets by adding 150 aircraft in upcoming months. This will be the biggest addition to the fleet lately.
It has been reported that the country’s aviation sector’s fleet will grow by 25 percent in the next 12 months. The numbers are likely to benefit all the flyers nationwide, which are growing with each passing day. It will also fill the gap, created by Go First’s grounding fleet due to financial issues.
Here’s Detailed Breakdown
It has been informed that the leading carrier Air India will add more than 91 aircraft next year, followed by budget airline IndiGo which will add 35, and Akasa Air to capture 18 aircraft.
Reacting about the same next year fleet addition roadmap, IndiGo, which is holding over 334 aircraft in its fleet right now, says the carrier will be adding one aircraft every week in 2024.
It also confirmed that the process of this will kick-start in January 2024. The official also revealed that some of their leased aircraft will stop operating, and go back to original base, making the fleet stick at around 35 aircraft next year.
Akasa Airline Fleet Addition
Akasa Airline official also revealed their plans and said it will take deliveries of two aircraft this month, giving a push to its fleet.
Working Aircraft in India
Meanwhile, as per the data available on the record, Indian airlines have more than 599 working planes as of yet. Among all, 15O have been grounded due to technical faults, including the budget airline Go First’s fleet.
