Tata Motors is in the process of developing a new Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier, previously showcased as the Curvv.
The design trademark for Curvv has recently been filed by the Indian automaker. The initial plan is to introduce Curvv as an electric vehicle (EV). However, the trademark filing seems to be for the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version of Curvv, as reported by Motorbeam.
The vehicle in the trademark images has a front grille, which electric vehicles do not have because they require less airflow than ICE-powered vehicles. The rest of the design appears to be very similar to the concept shown at Auto Expo 2023. You could call it a crossover, a coupe SUV, or even a modified sedan. This will be a very unique body style in this segment, which is typically found on luxury vehicles such as the BMW X4, Mercedes GLC Coupe, Audi Q3 Sportback, and so on.
What To Expect?
When it debuts, the Curvv will be the most reasonably priced SUV-Coupe available in the Indian market. The Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq will all be its rivals. There are currently no details available regarding the Curvv’s pricing.
The front profile features a large grille, DLRs on top, and bumper-integrated headlights. The side profile features large wheel arches and black cladding across the lower half of the body. The ORVMs are mounted on the doors, not on the pillar. Another intriguing detail is the new flush-type door handles, which will appear for the first time in a Tata vehicle. The interior is expected to be modelled after the Nexon.
The Tata Cruvv will be available with a new set of turbocharged petrol engines, which will make their debut at the Auto Expo 2023. There are two sizes available: 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre units. The 1.2-litre engine produces 123 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 225 Nm of peak torque at 1,700-3,500 rpm. The 1.5-litre engine produces 168 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of peak torque at 2,000-3,500 rpm. In addition, the gearbox options are not currently known.
The Curvv will also be available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine in addition to petrol engines. The Nexon is powered by the same engine as well. There are 260 Nm and 113 bhp produced. It can be connected to either a 6-speed AMT or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
