An Australian woman is accused of killing her husband and dismembering his body after discovering he had a “secret lover” in Egypt, according to local media reports.
Nirmeen Noufl, 53, from Sydney, killed her husband, Mamdouh Noufl, 62, to whom she had been married for more than three decades, Australia-based 7NEWS reported. The couple has eight children between them but none of them are believed to be involved in the killing.
The report said the motive behind the gruesome alleged murder is believed to be Mamdouh’s affair with a woman in Egypt, to whom he had been sending money. It said the killing may have taken place several months after Nirmeen found out about the affair. As per reports, during a heated argument at their home on Juno Pde in Greenacre, the flight turned deadly.
Earlier in July last year, Mamdouh was reported missing by family friends after he had not been seen since May, and a public appeal was launched by local police when he could not be located. It took police over a year to complete its probe before arresting his wife. New South Wales Police Homicide Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said Mamdouh’s death was brutal, macabre and bizarre.
He added that police had enough evidence to allege his wife murdered him. “We will allege, also, that she butchered and dismembered his body, placed his body parts in plastic bags and then disposed of his remains in various rubbish bins in residential areas and industrial areas of southwest Sydney,” Doherty was quoted as saying by 7NEWS.
Australian media reports said that Nirmeen attempted to cover up the crime by spinning a web of lies and misinformation after disposing of the body. “We will allege … the accused had taken over Mamdouh’s phone and social media accounts purporting that he would still be alive,” Doherty said. “That probably delayed some of the investigations and also was probably a ruse to disguise the fact that he had been killed.” Nirmeen was formally refused bail in court on Friday and is due to appear before Burwood Local Court on December 11.
