There is no dearth of creativity and innovation when it comes to automobile modification in India. People often add new features to old cars and even transform humble vehicles into luxury cars with sheer creativity and technical expertise. Recently, entrepreneur Ashneer Grover shared a photo which showed how an electric car from Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto was designed to look like a Tesla car. The photo was reportedly taken in Delhi’s Karol Bagh. While sharing this photo, Grover wrote, “World’s first ‘cross-breed’ Tesla! Some Delhi boy literally ‘built his dream’ in Karol Bagh.” This post has gathered over 6,000 likes since it was shared on February 3.

Commenting on it, an X user joked, “Build your dreams to beat 100% import duties.” Another person wrote, “After looking at this, Elon will set up his Indian plant in Karol Bagh Delhi.”

Many people also used this post to talk about BYD Auto’s increase in popularity and production. An X user remarked, “It’s a Chinese electric car manufacturer, and from this month it has also bought one of its own ships to export cars. It’s the second largest electric car manufacturing company in the world. I like this model from the exterior but not from the interior. Provide Good range.”

Another person observed, “BYD cars have become more in number in HYD. Last month also I saw a few in Delhi. Mostly EV. Who & why people are buying them? Interested to know. What’s the USP & how people are reaching the showrooms of BYD with almost no ads?”

This is not the only video that shows Indian creativity when it comes to automobile design. Back in August 2022, Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra Group, took notice of A Gowtham, a young man from Keezhad in Tamil Nadu who constructed an electric jeep at his home.

A Gowtham had posted a video that showed him building the jeep and had tagged Mahindra in his post. Mahindra was impressed with A Gowtham’s video as he reposted it. Mahindra also asked R Velusamy, the President of Automotive Technology and Product Development at M&M Ltd, to get in touch with A Gowtham.

Mahindra wrote, “This is why I’m convinced India will be a leader in EVs. I believe America gained dominance in autos because of people’s passion for cars & technology & their innovation through garage ‘tinkering.’ May Gowtham & his ‘tribe’ flourish.”
