The popular global instant messaging application WhatsApp experienced a significant outage, leading to disruptions for users worldwide, including those in India. Many users encountered difficulties with sending and receiving messages, while others reported issues with updating their WhatsApp status. According to Downdetector, problems began around 11:22 PM on Wednesday and peaked at 11:51 PM, with over 24,000 reports. Despite initially underestimating the extent of the impact, it only took a few minutes for the hashtag #whatsappdown to trend on X (formerly known as Twitter).
WhatsApp users wasted no time and immediately resorted to the microblogging platform to share their issues. From hilarious memes to jokes about Mark Zuckerberg, a series of posts took over the platform in a couple of hours.

Hours after WhatsApp went down, leaving people in a state of confusion, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta-owned WhatsApp itself reacted to the issue, and the services were restored shortly after that. “We know some people are experiencing issues right now; we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible,” the company shared.
