The Civil Services Exam (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the hardest tests. More than 8 to 10 lakh applicants apply for this examination each year, however only about 10,000 advance to the mains exam. In the end, just 1000 candidates make it to the interview round, indicating a less than 1 per cent success rate. So, if you manage to crack the exam, you are regarded as nothing short of a genius. That’s why when the 2023 CSE topper Aditya Srivastava landed in his hometown Lucknow; he was given a grand welcome.
On April 22, Srivastava arrived at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport and was greeted with garlands and roses. The viral video, which was shared by ANI, shows Srivastava seeing his family, touching their feet and taking flowers from his well-wishers while covered in garlands.
“Aditya Srivastava, who secured the first rank in the Civil Services Examination, arrives in UP’s Lucknow, received by family and friends,” ANI wrote on X (Formerly Twitter).

The Union Public Service Commission released the Civil Services Examination final results last week. The panel has recommended 1016 individuals for recruitment as officers in the All India Services, including the IAS and IPS, this year.
In the meanwhile, Srivastava succeeded on his third try at this outstanding achievement. He had obtained the 236th rank in his previous try and was inducted into the Indian Police Service. His training is being conducted at the Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
Aditya, a City Montessori School Aliganj branch Lucknow alumni, completed JEE Advanced in 2014 and was admitted to IIT Kanpur. Following his graduation, he enrolled in a dual degree BTech/MTech curriculum. He has now achieved a remarkable goal by topping the civil service examination.
