For cricket fans in India, shirtless celebration is not a new thing. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly started the trend in 2002 after the Indian team, under his leadership, triumphed over England in the final of the NatWest Trophy at the Lord’s in London. A young fan was recently seen imitating the iconic celebration during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The moment transpired at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium – the home ground of the Gujarat-based franchise.
Despite being a two-year-old franchise, Gujarat has already developed a massive fanbase. Ahmedabad plays host to a sea of fans almost in every home game of the Titans. The scene was quite similar on March 31 when Sunrisers Hyderabad squared off against the 2022 IPL champions. The hosts had the last laugh in the match, beating SRH by seven wickets.

After the victory was sealed, a little fan of Gujarat Titans broke into an emphatic celebration in the stands. The boy had donned a jersey of the home side and looked quite delighted. While standing on his chair, he took off his shirt and started waving it in the air with much excitement.

The moment was captured on the broadcaster’s camera and became an instant hit. After the clip surfaced on the internet, the gesture of the Gujarat Titans fan reminded many viewers of a viral scene from a baseball match. In 2015, a boy was captured doing some hilarious moves at a stadium in Miami and his reaction later turned into a meme.

Speaking about Gujarat Titans, the franchise named Shubman Gill as the captain ahead of the ongoing season. The decision was made after their previous skipper Hardik Pandya switched to his former team Mumbai Indians. The shift in leadership seems to have hardly made any impact on Gujarat’s performance. They have played three matches this season and emerged victorious in two of them.
Gujarat began their campaign in the 2024 IPL with a narrow six-run victory over Mumbai Indians. They, however, failed to replicate the performance in the following game where Chennai Super Kings defeated them by 63 runs. The Titans bounced back well in the next match against Hyderabad. With four points to their name, Gujarat are now fifth in the IPL standings.
