CRED Founder Under Fire for Suggesting Mediocre People Tend to Have Similar Friends
CRED founder Kunal Shah's post on 'mediocre friends' goes viral, internet says, 'Stop grading friends'.

It’s often said that the only relationships we truly choose in this world are our friendships. Unlike with family, where we’re born into those connections, our friends are the ones we pick ourselves. They become a significant part of our lives, regardless of their background, beliefs, or social status. So, when CRED founder, Kunal Shah, made a remark on ‘mediocre people’, it set ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter) on fire.

On May 25, the founder of the credit card bill payment app wrote, “Mediocre people often have a clear tell: you’ll often see them hanging out with other mediocre people, probably because the A+ folks avoid them.” Instantly, his words sparked uproar as the public condemned his view on ‘grading’ friendships.

Criticism flooded in from all angles. One voice chimed in, “Doesn’t correlate with real life for me — people hang out more based on their value systems than anything else and within that they might seek folks at their level ( A or D-) for a particular thing they are doing. I hope i don’t personally blanket label people at A+ or D- and explore everyone for what they are / bring.” Another retorted, “Sir some of us don’t assign grades to our friends.”

A third voice offered a simple truth, “Many a time, friends remain just that—friends.” And a fourth summed it up neatly, “You don’t know if someone is mediocre or A+ until you see their character during wartime.  Everything else is just superficial judgement and utterly useless.”

Even Celebrity photographer Joseph Radhik joined the conversation, highlighting the joy of simple life pleasures. He said, “Somewhere out there, there are people just living their lives – making friends, falling in love, raising kids, and having…fun. And then there are people like this, deep diving into capitalistic hell without being able to enjoy simple things like ‘hanging out’ without evaluation. Live a little, Kunal, and think a little less, perhaps. An incredibly full life can be lived by both a mediocre, an A+ person, and every type of stupid definition in between.”

Since its posting, the post has racked up a staggering million views, proving that when it comes to friendships, everyone has their own take.
