Coffee Topped With Spring Onion Is China’s Latest Dark Cuisine

Many coffee lovers around the world are always eager to try varieties of this drink. Coffee is a staple for many people. Many of them cannot start their day without a cup of coffee. It is a drink made from roasted, ground beans or seeds. Nowadays, coffee can be served in many ways, for example, hot, cold or iced. There are countless coffee shops that serve a variety of flavours. Coffee is considered a stress reliever and is proven to be good for health. It contains caffeine, which also makes it addictive. Recently, a new type of coffee has become very popular in China. It is called Scallion Latte.

Scallions and coffee don’t seem to go together, but lattes flavoured with scallions are all the rage in China right now. A simple search for the hashtag #springonionlatter on TikTok or Instagram will bring up dozens of photos and videos of latte cups topped with scallions. Just last month, the unusual drink was featured in several Asian publications, which called it one of the most surprising combinations ever tried.

To make a good Scallion Latte, you first have to mash a few green onions in the cup, then add ice, milk, and coffee, and finally garnish with lots of chopped green onions, because why not? No one knows exactly how, where or when the scallion latte was invented, but in recent months, the crazy concoction seems to have been adopted by enough cafes to attract attention online.

The ‘chilli hot ice latte’ is another example of dark Chinese cuisine. Reactions to the scallion latte were mixed, which is to be expected given the odd combination. Some people said they never thought they’d one day have to ask for onion-free coffee, while others were intrigued by the unique latte but worried about bad breath.
