The upcoming Redmi Note smartphone could finally get a new processor.

Xiaomi seemed to have skipped the Redmi Note 6 as of now as a report suggests that the Redmi Note 7 is in the works. According to a leaked benchmark test result, we could see the smartphone sooner or later.

With a score of 1462 for a single core and 4556 for multiple cores on Geekbench, the alleged device is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC, the same which powers the Mi A2 Android One smartphone from Xiaomi. This is good news as fans have been complaining Xiaomi of reusing old chipsets for its Redmi Note lineup.

The benchmark results also suggest that the handset would come with up to 6GB of RAM and run on Android 9.0, which means it could come with the new OS version out of the box.

Xiaomi had recently announced that its popular budget series Redmi, will be separated into its own sub-brand. The new Redmi sub-brand is expected to continue its focus on budget devices. With that, the first device under the newly formed sub-brand is expected to launch on January 10, which most likely could be the Redmi Pro 2 with a 48-megapixel camera. The Redmi 7 series is also expected to make an appearance as it has been leaked via various certification authorities.
