WhatsApp users keep getting a slew of new features every once in a while for a fresh, utilitarian experience. A while back, Meta rolled out the ability to lock chats; this added an extra layer of security on top of already existing device biometrics, preventing others from accessing them.
This has proven to be a helpful feature for users, and now they can breathe a sigh of relief when around snoopy people. However, it must be noted that the same functionality doesn’t work for your linked devices, as it is device-specific on mobile—leaving you out of luck with your other devices. Luckily, WhatsApp is bringing the chat lock functionality to linked devices as well, as spotted by WABetaInfo.
According to the report, when this feature rolls out, WhatsApp chats will be automatically locked on a linked device when they are locked on the main device. “This synchronization of chat locks across devices ensures consistent protection of selected conversations from prying eyes, regardless of the device being used” the report added.
To unlock these chats on the linked device or the main device, you need the secret code that you just set up while locking the chat in the first place.
When Is It Expected To Roll Out?
WABetaInfo says this feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.4.14 update; however, it isn’t clear when this feature would be available for the masses. The publication notes that the feature is currently under development and will be available in a future app update.
