Tumblr adds 'torrent' word to the site's adult filter; hides related posts on site

New Delhi: Tumblr has added the word 'torrent' to its adult filter, thereby hiding all related posts from public view so that people don't stumble upon 'offensive' content on the blogging site.

Tumblr users who search for posts with 'torrent' word will not get any results even if there are a lot of posts mentioning the word.

A report on TorrentFreak said last week a lot of users received takedown notices, which resulted in the termination of several blogs. However, there is more to the censoring- growing concern about piracy on the site.

Not only will the search results will show no content for 'torrent,' but even posts with the keyword will be hidden.

However, there is a little loophole in the censoring as logged in users can still make the posts show up if they switch off the 'safe mode' lock on the right hand side of the screen, which was turned on by default over a year ago to hide offensive 'adult oriented' content from public view.

It is not clear whether the word 'torrent' has been banned over piracy concerns or due to its frequent association with porn.

What's your reaction?
