New Delhi: Microsoft has officially declared that its upcoming Project Spartan web browser will completely replace the long-standing but troublesome Internet Explorer.
The company announced that based on strong feedback from its Windows Insiders and customers, Windows 10 will have Project Spartan hosting the new engine exclusively. However, Internet Explorer 11 will remain fundamentally unchanged from Windows 8.1, continuing to host the legacy engine exclusively.
Its blog further noted that Project Spartan is the default browser for all Windows 10 customers and will provide unique user experiences including the ability to annotate on web pages, a distraction-free reading experience, and integration of Cortana for finding and doing things online faster.
The good-old Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 will only be available for a small set of websites that were built to work with legacy technologies. Enterprises with large number of sites that rely on these technologies can choose to make IE 11 their default browser via group policy.
