During the Microsoft CEO Connection event in Mumbai on Wednesday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasised the importance of collaboration between India and the United States to establish regulations around artificial intelligence.

“I think it’s imperative especially for India and the United States to be able to cooperate, what are the norms, what are the regulations even, instead of fracturing them,” Nadella, said when asked about the cooperation opportunities between India and the US.

Microsoft has also pledged to train 20 lakh Indians, and on the same, Nadella added that it is important to ensure that the workforce “thrives” for a company. Plus, he noted that about 16% of the global AI talent pool is based out of India, and Indians will account for almost 25% additions to the global market in the next decade.

Microsoft Aims To Empower Organisations In India Using AI

Nadella said that Microsoft’s mission is to “empower every person, every organisation in India to be able to achieve more in this age of AI. We think, at the end of the day, making sure that the workforce has the skills to be able to thrive in this new age is the most important thing that any of us can be doing.”

Nadella also addressed the Indian market as a whole, noting its status as one of the highest growth markets globally. He shared an interesting fact about the predicted AI GDP reaching USD 500 billion by 2025, while the overall GDP is expected to be USD 5 trillion.

Microsoft Has Been Working With Indian Companies

It’s important to note that Microsoft has already been collaborating with Indian enterprises, including ITC, Arvind, various non-profits, and IT companies like Infosys and HCL Technologies.

Nadella also revealed that he engaged in a meeting with N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of the Tata Group. He drew attention to the fact that the conglomerate’s aviation arm, Air India, is actively adopting artificial intelligence, and has a dedicated AI “agent” designed to aid customers for ticket booking.

Furthermore, Nadella believes that empowering organizations with AI applications has never been easier. He emphasised AI’s role in scientific progress, particularly in countries like India, where a significant portion of investments is directed towards core basic science.
