X Premium users have enjoyed making audio and video calls on the platform for a while, but now Elon Musk has decided to bring the feature to all the users on X, even those who don’t pay for the platform. Bringing calls to X makes it a rival to WhatsApp and other apps that let you make calls in both forms.
Having said that, it is interesting to Musk to open up the feature to all the X users, which probably suggests the premium adoption of the platform hasn’t gone as rosy as he would have imagined. X notes that by default, users can receive calls from the accounts they follow or have in their address book. Additionally, there is another prerequisite: to call a user, you must have sent them a DM, and they must have sent you a DM “at least once before.”
To control who can call you, or to disable calling on X entirely follow these steps:
– Open X, and head to the DM section. Here, in the top right corner, you will see the settings icon. Tap to open
– X gives you the option disable the feature entirely using the toggle button
You can also limit who can call by selecting from; ‘People in your address book,’ ‘People you follow,’ and ‘Verified users.’
How to make video/audio calls on X
– Open your direct messages
– Tap on an existing DM conversation or start a new conversation
– Tap on the phone icon
– Tap on the phone icon, and then on ‘Audio call’ to start an audio call, or tap ‘Video call’ to start a video call
The person you call will receive a notification that you’re calling them. If they don’t pick up, they’ll get a notification that they missed a call.
