Actress Sonu Gowda, known for her appearance in the OTT version of Bigg Boss Kannada has been arrested in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The arrest was made following the announcement made by her on social media that she had adopted an 8-year-old girl from North Karnataka.
According to a report in the Free Press Journal, the officials have accused the actress of not complying with the adoption protocols and performing the adoption merely as a popularity stunt. As per reports, Sonu’s arrest took place after the officials of the Child Protection Office and local Bengaluru police conducted a joint operation.
The case was registered against the Bigg Boss Kannada OTT contestant on Thursday, March 21. A notice was also sent to Sonu under the allegations of deprivation of the rights of children but she didn’t answer it. As per the police, the information regarding the child cannot be shared on social media after her adoption. The Free Press Journal reported that Sonu has maintained her silence throughout the investigation.
Despite the arrest, Sonu has not removed the pictures of the girl from Instagram.
Some of the social media users criticised Sonu for using an 8-year-old kid to increase the likes count. Few others, however, appreciated the actress for the adoption.
Besides this incident, Sonu dominated the headlines in February as well after there were rumours that she faced a car accident while learning to drive. As per reports, the incident had taken place when she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes, causing the vehicle, reportedly owned by her brother, to collide with a pole. As per the speculations, Sonu had also sustained minor injuries on her hands and legs in the accident. The actress dispelled these rumours in an Instagram post.
Sonu Gowda gained fame through her participation in Bigg Boss Kannada OTT, hosted by Kichcha Sudeep, where she reached the finals and became one of the top four contestants.
