Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress Kerala committee member Jaya Dali on Sunday resigned from the outfit to contest as an independent from the Kattakkada segment in the district in the April 13 Assembly polls.
Addressing reporters here, she alleged that Congress was giving away tickets only to undeserving candidates and flayed the party's decision to field N Sakthan from Kattakkada. She said Sakthan was facing several corruption charges.
The party leaders had failed to keep their promise to give more representation to women and youth while selecting candidates.
Dali is likely to get the support of LDF, which has reportedly decided to withdraw its candidate Sheela Ramani (CPI-M) from the fray following opposition from party functionaries in the segment.
