Ahead of the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may include some new faces from the state in his Cabinet.

A Cabinet reshuffle is on the cards and sources say that Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath and Saharanpur MP Raghav Lakhan Pal could find a place in the rejig.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Friday confirmed that the much awaited Union Cabinet reshuffle will take place soon.

Though he did not specify the date but party insiders claimed that it is likely to happen in the first week of June. "Cabinet reshuffle will happen soon. The date is not yet fixed," he said in a press conference at BJP headquarters in Delhi.

The Cabinet will also get a new minister of state for sports (independent charge), which is vacant after Sarbananda Sonowal became the Chief Minister of Assam.

There are speculations that Modi may axe some ministers because of their poor performances and failure in achieving the government's goals.

The Prime Minister kicked off the two-year anniversary celebration by addressing the first mega rally in Saharanpur on Thursday.
