Visakhapatnam: People split over Telangana, say it will affect polls
The YSR Congress has fielded Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother as the Lok Sabha candidate from Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam, second only to Hyderabad in terms of industries and infrastructure, is likely to be the new capital of Seemandhra. It will go to polls on May 7.

The YSR Congress has fielded Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother as the Lok Sabha candidate from here while the Telugu Desam Party has given away the ticket to the BJP as part of its alliance. The incumbent MP from Congress Daggubati Purandeswari has left the party over Andhra Pradesh's bifurcation. There are 22 candidates in the fray from Visakhapatnam.

The people of Visakhapatnam, too, are angry over the bifurcation of the state. "Definitely we are angry because we were never in favour of bifurcation. Now since it is inevitable we don't want to cry over spilled milk. It will have an effect on the polls because people are angry," said a voter.

However, there are many who feel that the bifurcation will increase employment opportunities. "Everyone is making the Congress scapegoat for the bifurcation but they are not looking after the good of bifurcation. It can provide employment opportunity in both the regions to the youth who are suffering to attend the white collar jobs," said a local.

Meanwhile, with the current political scenario, some also feel that they won't have much of an option. "I don't think we have much of an option, there are no good options available, only the BJP-TDP alliance a way out," said a resident.
