Video of Jayalalithaa in Hospital Proves Nothing, Says Deepa Jayakumar
Jayakumar said the 20-second clip, released to clear the air around Jaya’s death, does not show anything that points to when or where it was taken, and hence, does nothing to prove there was no wrongdoing.

Bengaluru: J Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar has raised doubts about the authenticity of the video released by the TTV Dinakaran camp showing the late Tamil Nadu chief minister in the hospital.

Jayakumar said the 20-second clip, released to clear the air around Jaya’s death, does not show anything that points to when or where it was taken, and hence, does nothing to prove there was no wrongdoing.

“I could believe that the person in the video is my aunt, but the more important question is when the video was shot,” she said.

She also questioned the timing of the video being made public, just a day before the RK Nagar bypoll.

“This is against election norms and against the model code of conduct,” she said, adding, “I can see the plan behind this... all pre-poll surveys showed TTV is going to lose. So, Sasikala wants to come back and gain popularity just to fetch votes and to stay in politics.”

Jayakumar said that she had already pointed out to the committee probing Jayalalithaa’s death that it was not clear under what circumstances her aunt was admitted to the hospital.

“There is also a possibility she was attacked and then admitted. Dr Reddy of Apollo Hospital said she was taken in an unconscious condition but later her health improved. We are only seeing the video of treatment. Why can't the same people or Sasikala produce the CCTV footage from the Poes garden residence?” she asked.

Jaya’s niece further said it was ethically wrong to make the video public. “This is abuse of a person’s privacy. Using such a video for propaganda for votes is the worst thing once can do to a person of my aunt’s caliber, who was always there to serve people. She knew how to get votes and never stooped to this level,” she said. “Even if it had to be released, it should have been submitted to the inquiry commission,” she added.
